Summary

One of the best sites in Thetford forest

Location

  • TL820937
  • 52.510801, 0.680482

This is one of the best woodland sites in the county and particularly good for the elusive Hawfinch. The southern car park gives easy access to the paddock where most sightings of the Hawfinch come from. The general area is good for Crossbills and Firecrest.

The line of alders along the river is good for siskin and redpoll. The path along the stream to the east of the bridge reportedly holds both Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and Willow Tit but I have never been lucky enough to see them.

The northern car park gives access to the arboretum which can hold Firecrest in winter and Lynford lakes on the north side of the road which can be good for wildfowl.

Target Species

Hawfinch, Crossbill and Firecrest
