Summary

coastal marsh and grazing fields

Location

  • TG030441
  • 52.955845, 1.020632

This site is sandwiched between Blakeney Point to the north, Cley to the east and Morston marshes to the west. It is less watched than Cley and the Point but can still turn up good birds due to its location.

The marshes are best viewed from Friary Hills, park at the bottom of Back Lane and enter through the gate. This is a very reliable spot for hunting Barn Owl at any time of year. In spring the site often holds Ring Ouzel in the hedges and Yellow Wagtails with the cattle, these are worth checking for Blue-headed or something rarer.

You can also do a circular walk from the harbour car park along the sea wall which brings you back to Cley Mill. This is good for closer views of waders on the marsh, and you can also check the tidal creeks where the River Glaven empties into Blakeney Harbour.

In 2009 the site had Collared Pratincole and 2 Red-rumped Swallows together.

Target Species
