Summary

Heath most famous for Nightingales and Nightjars

Location

  • TG072425
  • 52.939878, 1.082038

The traditional site for Nightingale in Norfolk and a popular spot for Nightjar too. The heath has some good areas of scrub and thick bushes mainly close to the road but also further in, this is the preferred habitat of the Nightingale. The population here is not dense with approximately 4 males on territory each year. They are most vocal at night so visits at dawn and dusk on a warm day are ideal. After you’ve listed to a nightingale you can wander up onto the more open part of the heath and hopefully catch a glimpse of a Nightjar. This was a good site for Tree Pipit but I have not been lucky enough to see one.
