In harsh winters when all other areas of fresh water are frozen this can be a fantastic site, it remains Ice free all year round. In early 2010 up to 60 Goosanders were present, it can also be good for Scaup, Smew and Grebes. The site also turns up the odd interesting non water bird, I found a Great Grey Shrike there in November 2008. If coming form the north it is worth checking the relief channels and river from Saddlebow south for the mentioned species
