Birding Site: Blackborough End Tip

Summary

A site for Gull enthusiasts

Location

  • TF678143
  • 52.700369, 0.481897

This is the best site for Caspian Gull in the county, and it is also very good for Yellow-legged Gull and white winged gulls during the Winter. Take the rough track from the village of Blackborough keeping right, the left fork goes in to the tip. Park sensibly on the left before the gate there is room for 2-3 cars. If not park back near the entrance and walk. The gulls loaf and bathe on the pool directly below the tip. When approaching the site along the main track be very careful not to flush them, sneak up to the fence to view. If you fail here head down to Nar Valley Fisheries which can be viewed from a footpath off the tip entrance track or from the public footpath along the river.

Target Species

Caspian Gull and possibly a Glaucous or Iceland Gull
